Team Leadership: Leads and develops a team of approximately eight (8) sales professionals

Experience Required: 10+ years of progressive sales management experience in custom millwork or a related industry

Job Summary

The General Sales Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for driving revenue growth and executing the company's sales strategy within the custom millwork manufacturing and distribution industry. This role requires a results-oriented leader with deep industry expertise, strong strategic planning capabilities, and the ability to build and sustain long-term customer relationships across residential and commercial markets.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to achieve and exceed revenue and unit goals.
  • Analyze market trends, customer demand, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Forecast sales performance, establish measurable objectives, and monitor KPIs.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and lead inside and outside sales teams.
  • Set performance expectations and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Foster a high-performance, customer-focused sales culture aligned with company values and mission.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with distributors, architects, designers, specifiers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure exceptional customer satisfaction and resolve escalated customer issues.
  • Identify new business opportunities and expand market penetration.

Product & Market Expertise

  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of custom millwork products, specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Educate customers and internal teams on product offerings and applications.
  • Monitor industry and competitor trends to maintain a competitive advantage.

Operational & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, logistics, purchasing, and product development teams to align sales initiatives with company objectives.
  • Support accurate and timely product delivery through cross-functional coordination.
  • Partner with marketing on promotional initiatives, trade shows, and industry events.
  • Prepare and present sales reports, forecasts, and strategic insights to executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • Proven sales management experience in residential and commercial doors, windows, or millwork industries.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and distribution processes and installation practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and develop strategic action plans.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings and industry events.
